Viewing & Technical Requirements
How do I get to the videos once I'm logged in?
Once you have logged in, click on the "Videos" link located on the far left of the dark-gray banner.
Can I stop or pause a video?
Yes. You can pause a video or log out and return later to complete watching it. If you note the time elapsed when you stopped the presentation, you can use the scroll bar at the bottom of the video screen to advance the feed to where you left off.
Can I click on a document while watching a video?
Yes. When you click on a document you can save it somewhere on your computer or open and print it from a second screen. Opening a document will not pause the video.
What media player do the videos use?
The embedded video player is JW Player, a popular software for playing videos on the web. With support for Flash and HTML5, it is considered the most flexible media player that any user can find on the Internet. However, JavaScript must be enabled in your browser for the videos to play properly.
Can I download the video to watch it later?
No. In the current version of the site, downloads are not possible and would defeat the purpose of the site which requires using the embedded video player in order to meet State Bar requirements for verification of MCLE training.
Can I share videos to watch with other attorneys?
This site is intended for individual training and viewing by members of the JCC Appointed Counsel program. Also, viewing a video with others will bypass the electronic "attendance" sign-in feature of this site. This means that CCAP will be unable to verify MCLE credit for anyone other than the user who signed in to use the site.

MCLE, Attendance & Evaluations
Can I earn live or "participatory" MCLE credit for watching a video?
Yes. This site meets the "MCLE Technology Subcommittee Online Guidelines" adopted by the California State Bar in May, 2000. Those guidelines state that live (participatory) "credit for attending an online course is limited to the actual time spent." An MCLE credit sheet, which is your certificate of attendance, may be printed and retained for MCLE credit offered for each video; the credit sheet states the maximum amount of credit available.
Can I earn live or "participatory" specialization credit for watching a video?
Yes. Many of our videos qualify for either Criminal Law Specialization credit, or Appellate Law Specialization credit, or both. Specialists should check the "MCLE/Specialization Credit" box listed below the video, to see how much credit the video will qualify for their California State Bar specialty. Because this site meets the "MCLE Technology Subcommittee Online Guidelines" adopted by the California State Bar in May, 2000, you can earn live (participatory) specialist "credit for attending an online course limited to the actual time spent." A separate MCLE credit sheet, which is your certificate of attendance, is available to print and retain for specialty credit when offered for a video; the credit sheet states the maximum amount of credit available.

Can I earn any MCLE credit for also reading the materials associated with a video?
Credit may be available under alternative self-study credit rules; refer to California State Bar rules to calculate this credit. Note that "self-study" MCLE rules for attorneys were amended effective July 1, 2014: under rule 2.51(G), self-study activities can be delivered by electronic means; rule 2.72 states the restriction on the number of MCLE hours that can be claimed by an attorney as self-study; under rule 2.83(A) only materials dated less than 5 years old qualify for self-study credit. CCAP will make an effort to periodically update materials associated with a posted video, however, the attorney is ultimately charged with the responsibility to check the date of the article for self-study compliance.

How do I calculate participatory and self-study credit for different activities?
A Certificate of Attendance sheet is available for MCLE and specialist credits offered per video watched; the provider certifies the length of the video for participatory credit. Additional self-study credit might be earned for reading the associated materials and articles for each video. The material covered in the video is not necessarily everything in the materials that are often more in-depth. Refer to California State Bar rules to calculate self-study credit.

Why does watching the online video qualify for "participatory" credit?
The "MCLE Technology Subcommittee Online Guidelines" adopted by the California State Bar in May, 2000, states that in order to receive participatory credit for online activities, the attendee must have an opportunity to both view the video and participate in the program. Located at the bottom of the webpage for each video is a Comment & Discussion Forum box. The Forum is an open threaded discussion which permits you to read and post associated comments about the video. However, you are not required to use the Forums or post a comment if you choose not to, and you can still earn the participatory credit for watching the video. Having the ability to participate in the online Forums distinguishes watching our online videos (which is participatory credit) from watching an MCLE training DVD on your TV (which is self-study credit).

Do I need to "sign-in" to receive credit for "attendance"?
This site obtains your electronic signature when you login to use the site and view a video. Those "signatures" will be maintained by the MCLE provider (CCAP) in accordance with State Bar rules in the case of an audit. You do not otherwise need to sign in.
How do I receive an MCLE "attendance" form for watching an individual video?
You will need to print an MCLE credit sheet, which is your certificate of attendance, for your State Bar records after viewing a video. Each video has MCLE and Specialists' credit (if any) associated with the video being watched. Select the PDF from the list of documents to print your MCLE credit sheet.
How do I fill out or send in an evaluation for a video?
Choose the evaluation sheet PDF from the list of documents for the video. You may send the completed evaluation sheet to CCAP at the address on the evaluation sheet or scan and email it to resources@capcentral.org. This aspect of the site is very important to us and we thank you in advance for sharing your constructive feedback.

Probably not. The Forum associated with each video is an open-threaded discussion where individuals may post opinions, questions, comments, etc., for others to read and respond to. While all users may participate, read and respond to the posts, the presenter/speaker is unlikely to monitor the postings for this purpose and should not be expected to respond.
